Latest news/peat. The Task Force issues its interim report.

Alan Knight’s foreword is very interesting basically suggesting he has gone as far as he can   and that the entrenched views see no sign of movement especially on part of NGO’s . He suggests that peat with a sustainable heritage is acceptable and that gardeners need a performance kite mark .He comments that the precautionary principle of no peat both in the White Paper and the New Planning policy is flawed in its logic as far as use by horticulture/gardeners  is concerned .

Vacancy – Agronomist with Specific Interest in LED lighting and Plant Responses to Light

Stockbridge Technology Centre (STC) Ltd, based in Yorkshire, is an independent applied R&D centre
delivering technology for UK horticulture & agriculture. We have been awarded a Horticultural
Fellowship sponsored by AHDB-HDC, HTA & EMT1 entitled “Securing Skills & Expertise in Crop Light
Responses for UK Protected Horticulture with Specific reference to LEDs”. The Fellowship provides an
opportunity for a plant scientist with a good understanding of robust experimental planning to join the
team at STC with a view to developing the skills necessary to become our lighting agronomist. We
envisage that the successful candidate will help build and ultimately lead an applied R&D team on LED
lighting and help develop a centre of expertise for the UK horticultural/agricultural industry.
