The EU Thematic Strategy for Pesticides includes a Regulation (to replace the pesticide authorisation Directive 91/414/EEC) and a new Sustainable Use Directive which have now been adopted and published.
The Regulation: (EC) 1107/2009 concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market and repealing Council Directives 79/117/EEC and 91/414/EEC, and the Directive: 2009/128/EC establishing a framework for Community action to achieve the sustainable use of pesticides, were published by the Commission on 24 November 2009. The Regulation will apply about 18 months after this date, in June 2011. The Directive will be implemented into UK legislation within two years of publication.
