UN conference pushes plant breeding; others see food security in jeopardy

Participants at a recent United Nations conference on the role of new plant varieties and seeds in agriculture agreed that access to genetic resources and the protection of intellectual property rights are essential to sustain plant breeding. But key opponents not present at the meeting claim that plant breeding will endanger biodiversity, sustainability and ultimately food security.

New partnership promotes responsible pesticide use

A new partnership to promote responsible pesticide use and water protection to farmers across England has been announced.

The Voluntary Initiative and the England Catchment Sensitive Farming Delivery Initiative have joined forces to undertake farmer surveys, agronomist workshops led by the Agricultural Industries Confederation, water protection workshops for farmers by the NFU and training for trainers organised by the Crop Protection Association.
